When ever Porsche release a new 911 its always exciting to see because even after 40 years in the development and Porsche still manages to make some serious changes to what is becoming an iconic car which is definitely a car I have grown to love over the the last 40 years.

The 997 body manages to combine the stylish modern looks and still keep the popular features from the older 911's. The front of the 997 has completely changed it has perfectly formed round lights but the parking lights along with the fog light and indicators are all separate. The Porsche 993 which I can remember going out in with my uncle not so long ago and having the ride of my life has new door handles and lovely sleek looking wing mirrors and the rear wings are just formed so stylishly into the bumper. I love it. 

Ok so the Porsche 997 does look very similar to its previous model the 996 however the 997 is about 38mm wider, this does not sound like much however it makes the 997 look so much more aggressive and gives it that presence that only a Porsche can do. Every new model that Porsche releases they try to reduce drag which only improves the ability of the 997 to pierce itself through the air and this just adds to the performance. Porsche have also started producing better rear wings and not only that they have started adding under body panels that increases the down force which makes the Porsche a lot more stickier to the roads and well the performance just gets better! 

As always the newest addition to the Porsche 911 range is the best road handling model produced but this is no joke the 997 is unbelievable The car is so rigid and this can ensure that the suspension is working to the best ability. However Porsche did improve the torsion strength by 8% and they also added 40% more flexible strength. 

With any super car safety is something that never gets overlooked and Porsche wanted to increase their safety features, two extra air bags were added in to the side of the seat this is to help protect the occupants thorax in the case of an accident so with the added two air bags it brings the total up to 6.

Porsche have also designed the body shell and reinforced it for increased protection and they have been more liberal with the use of extreme high strength steel.

With modern safety regulations they sort of enforce that new cars have to be heavier and although Porsche have tried saving weight with lighter yet stronger materials, they have put an aluminium bonnet which is a huge weight saving but Porsche 996 is still 50 kilograms lighter than the new Porsche 997. 

So even with the crash safety measures in place the extra weight can easily be associated to a higher standard of Porsche. The power to rate ratio is still very high in fact 233 bhp per tonne is not to be sniffed at and seeing as technology has allowed them to make things flow better then a little extra weight is not a big deal and yet the 997 is still producing the same performance figures as the 996 so all is not lost.

When VW was being conceptualized, their primary goal was to build a people's car. Something that ordinary people can afford and yet be functional enough for their lifestyle. Hence the VW beetle was produced. Adolf Hitler one of the people who supported the concept of the beetle. VW has been making quality cars since then. As the vehicles were continuously upgraded to suit the people's needs, various car parts were also enhanced to fit the vehicles design. One innovation that have helped the engine is the VW cold air intake.

A VW cold air intake is a system used to bring down the temperature of the air going into a car. Its primary purpose is to increase the power of the internal-combustion engine. A secondary goal is to increase the appeal of a car by changing the appearance of a car's engine bay and creating an attractive intake noise. All VW cold air intakes operate on the principle of increasing the amount of oxygen available for combustion with fuel. Because cooler air has more density for a given volume, cold air intakes generally work by introducing cooler air from outside the hot engine bay. However, the term cold air intake is often used to describe other methods of increasing oxygen to an engine, which may even increase the temperature of the air coming into an engine. The make of cold air intakes has a direct effect on the type of performance one wants or needs. One strategy used in designing cold air intakes is increasing the diameter of the air intake, that allows increased airflow. Another way is smoothing the interior of the intake to reduce air resistance. Providing a more direct route to the air intake, can also result to a better VW cold air intake.

Intake systems come in many different styles and can be constructed from plastic, metal, rubber or composite materials like fiberglass, carbon fiber or kevlar. Due to the limited time, air actually remains inside the intake tubing. The materials often do not impact a kit's ability to deliver cool air. The most basic cold air intake replaces the stock airbox with a short metal or plastic tube leading to a conical air filter, called a Short ram air intake. The power gained by this method can vary depending on how restrictive the factory airbox is. The placement of the filter is usually directly in the engine compartment. The overall benefits depend on the specific application. Power may be lost at certain engine speeds and gained at others. Because of the increased airflow and reduced covering, intake noise is usually increased. This effect is usually amplified on applications where a resonator, a part intended to reduce intake noise on some vehicles, is replaced by the intake.

Though the VW cold air intake can really help the engine, there is still some potential risk when using it. One thing is to avoid getting water in the engine by installing a water shield in the intake or not driving in the rain at all.

VW cold air intakes can really have a powerful effect on the car. But considering the possible risk, it should also be properly maintained just like any regular car part.
