Turning 40 does not mean suddenly becoming old fashioned and frumpy. On the contrary...nowadays the 40's are the old 30's! I think 40 is the best possible age for a woman, an age when she feels confident and has got enough experience to know what suits her and to understand her body. It is an age when, if dressed appropriately, she can look sexy without inhibitions providing she never tries to dress like 'a lamb' and always escapes from vulgarity. A 40 year old lady must understand she is not 20 any longer and must dress accordingly.

My firm belief is that, past 40, less is more. It is better to invest in quality items rather than have too much in the closet. Here are a few tips for a successful basic wardrobe. Jeans are more than ever a 'must' and should definitely be very present on your shopping list. However, when buying a pair, opt for well-cut dark denims and avoid skinny jeans (these will be better suited to your teenage daughter!). You will be able to team them up with some Converses or smart cowboy boots at the weekend, or some nice heels in the day. Make sure, however, that your shoes are current and avoid the classical court shoes. Rather, choose a pair of funky sandals or, if you are not a heels fan, some colourful ballerina pumps.

Complete the look with a classic white or cream shirt, a quality blazer and some stunning accessories. Alternatively, a simple cashmere sweater or a casual printed shirt will do very well.

A black dress is also a must. Make sure it is not too floaty, that it is knee length and modern without being tacky. You don't want to look like a baby doll but at the same time don't hide your body behind layers of fabric. Keep the dress simple. Bare in mind your body shape and your proportions and dare to wear it with boots, fun tights (if your legs aren't short) and -why not? - with a white T-shirt underneath.

An up-to-date trench coat, with an interesting cut will take you a long way. Worn with your jeans or a dress, it will prove to be a very versatile item of clothing. However, avoid at all costs, past a certain age, wearing it like our grandmothers used to: with a silk scarf, a lady like handbag or some very classical loafers or heels.

When it comes to choosing a handbag, rather than buying a grown up model, opt for a beggar or a messenger's bag. It will add a sporty touch to your outfit. Jewellery should be worn for effect but kept to a minimum. Avoid the pretty delicate watch and go for the man's or the sport's model. Make also a statement with a beautiful chunky ring or a fabulous costume necklace. If you choose this latter, make sure it is worn with a simple, stylish outfit and not with a jogging suit! The one piece of jewellery to avoid is your single rowed pearl necklace. If, like me, you have inherited one from your grandmother, wear it with your jeans and a T-shirt, or mixed with a colour full fancy necklace.

Your underwear should be feminine, luxurious and flirtatious. Long gone are the cotton boxers with printed logos of our 20s! Time to feel sexy and womanly... (oops, the French ness is coming out!).

It has also become more important than never to look after yourself. Your hair should always look neat and well cut, your nails should be short and manicured at all times and your make-up should be natural and not too sophisticated (but definitely always on).

At the end of the day, you want to have fun, feel good and feel confident. Think of all the famous 40 year olds and how good they look. Come to think of it, I am surrounded by fabulous 40 somethings who are not famous but who look equally fantastic. They are young, fun, youthful, and terribly attractive (my friends will love this!). Which older Blazer should i get to modify for off roading?

I currently have a 94 s-10 blazer. It is in pretty good shape but with 147,000 miles on the engine. I want a 4x4 to work on. Should I stick with this one and spend money on and turn into a on road/off road suv. Worried about spending money on it and it not lasting and wasting the money spent. Or should i get a mid year newer 4x4 SUV to do the same things to .....so which is better to work on...for better looks ...and just overall just better to work on....older square style 4x4 blazer or the newer rounded 4x4 models?

A general motors product with 147.000 miles is pretty much wore out.Blazer or Bronco are good choices when it comes to body style.As far as rounded or box style 4x4 go with what turns you on the most.Run the engine you have until it blows and then build your dream machine.Good luck and be carefull.
