Do brake lines decrease in performance as they age, or are they the same until they break?

My truck is 6 years old with 115,000 miles and I am going to have it in the shop to do some brake work. I want my brakes to be in top condition, and am wondering if replacing the lines will help with performance even if the old lines are still functioning. Does the old rubber flex more? I am thinking the old rubber might flex less as rubber usually hardens with age...

As for the metal lines: rust and other corrosives ( from road salts, chemicals ) are the enemy here. you have a truck so i assume you use it like one which means sometimes these lines can be damaged, kinked, or otherwise misshapened by something striking them. 6 years is not alot of usage for metal lines. good visual inspection here is the key. if they show no signs of any of the above, then they are fine and dont need replacing.
As for the rubber lines: again good visual inspection is required. true, with age the rubber tends to get worn out. they also take alot of heat that builds up from being pressurized. take into account these arent normal rubber lines. they are infact made to take the riggers of this kinda usage. they are more stout than your typical rubber hose/line. they still do crack and frey like a typical rubber hose will. you may notice a coil of plastic or metal wrapped around them to aid the their longevity because they do the flexing. rocks and other road hazzards do stike them from time to time. so you will see forms of gouging, pitting, etc. 6 years under normal usage usually isnt the end of their lives. again, only visual/hands on inspection is the key.
