Driving in the rain can be a hair-raising experience. However, it doesn't have to be. With a few safety precautions, some defensive driving and by equipping your auto for foul-weather driving, you're sure to make it from point A to point B without a scratch.
According to the National Safety Council, there are a number of preventative measures you can take to prevent losing control of your vehicle in poor visibility and on rain-covered roadways. Here are the top 4:
• Prevent fishtailing and skidding by driving cautiously and at a safe speed. Remember, in harsh conditions, even the posted speed limit may be too fast. Steer with light correction and brake by applying light pressure. Braking hard may cause the wheels to lock and the vehicle to skid.
• If the vehicle begins to skid, don't panic. Take your foot off the gas and steer in the direction you want the car to go, being careful not to overcorrect. Also known as "steering into the skid," this will bring the rear of the vehicle back in line with the front. If your vehicle is not equipped with an anti-lock brake system, avoid using the brakes. If your car does have anti-lock brakes, brake firmly as you steer in the direction you want to go.
• Hydroplaning occurs when a layer of water prevents direct contact between the tires and the roadway. Avoid it by keeping your tires properly inflated and replacing them when the tread wears thin. Dodge puddles and try to drive in the tire "tracks" left by the cars in front of you.
• If your car begins to hydroplane, don't brake or turn the steering wheel suddenly. This could result in a skid. Instead, take your foot off the gas until the car slows down and you feel the wheels grab the road again. Then apply your brake. Again, if you don't have anti-lock brakes, lightly pump the brake to apply pressure. If you do have an anti-lock system, brake normally. Your vehicle's computer will apply the pumping action if necessary.
Other than the importance of being able to stop safely, the ability to see in harsh weather is just as important. Change your windshield wiper blades every 6 - 12 months or every 6,000 miles. If you live in areas with a lot of sun, freezing temperatures or corrosive elements like pitch and pollen, your wiper blades may wear faster and need to be replaced more often. Watch out for streaking and noisy wiper blades. It may indicate your wipers are cracked, split or torn. Performance-grade wiper blades, like Ford Escape wiper blades or Jeep Wrangler wiper blades, make the best replacement. boosting visibility and safety in just about any conditions and installing in minutes. Just pop out the old, slap on the new, and your windshield will be clearer than HD TV.
Finally, bad weather also brings traffic, and a lot of it. Don't get caught in your vehicle on long trips without fresh air. With a set of rain guards, you can leave your windows open a crack without having to worry about rain pouring in and soaking your interior.
Driving in the rain poses a number of safety risks. But with the proper equipment for foul-weather driving, like wiper blades, rain guards or Ford Escape wiper blades, traversing the wet roadways will be no more difficult than a drive through the countryside on a sunny summer afternoon.
Taking Care of your Mercedes-benz Brake System
The Mercedes master cylinder that is usually used for Mercedes vehicles are manufactured by Girling, ATE, and Bendix. These master cylinders utilized two or three-chamber reservoirs, a level sensor contact built into each chamber. In times when brake fluid level is low or when there is pressure differential between two brake circuits caused by loss of fluid in either circuit, a warning light is activated.
The series 190, 420, and 500 make use of floating type front disc brake calipers while the other Benz models especially those with parking brakes and are cable actuated in rear brake rotor calipers utilizes non-floating type. All Mercedes cars have brake pad wear indicators and differential pressure warning indicator. The 420 and 500 series have inner pads only while the Anti-Lock Brake System is offered as a standard feature on the 420SEL, 300 and 560 series and optional for the 190 series. For the diesel models a vacuum pump is incorporated to provide vacuum to the power brake unit.
Adjusting Pedal Height
The height of the pedal measured from pedal pad to pedal stop should be 150mm. To get the correct pedal height adjust the loosen lock nuts and turn stop light switch afterwards tighten lock nuts and pedal free play 5-15 mm.
Above the brake pedal is the stoplight switch, loosen lock nuts and adjust switch in such a way that the contact button extends 6-8mm and then afterwards tighten lock nuts.
Parking Brake
1. Before raising the vehicle it is best to remove only one lug bolt at each rear wheel.
2. Try to rotate wheel until lug bolt hole is positioned over parking brake adjuster at an angle of 45 degrees forward for diagonal swing axle and 90 degrees forward for diagonal swing axle with starting torque compensation. And remember that parking brake must be adjusted if the brake pedal can be depressed by more than 2 steps of 6 without any braking effect. Try not to try to alter screw on parking brake intermediate lever since these screws are for balancing cable lengths only.
3. using a screwdriver inserted through the lug bolt hole, hand turn the adjuster until rear wheel can no longer be turned, back off the adjuster until it can be turned without the dragging the wheel.
Checking the Brake Warning Light
1. On the dash is mounted a dual warning light, try to turn the ignition on. Normally you will see a light glowing once parking brake lever is pulled tone notch and goes off when brake lever is full released.
2. To test the circuit warning sensor, again turn on the ignition, release the parking brake and make sure that the light is off. Open the bleeder screw on one wheel and depress brake pedal and the light should light up.
3. Close the bleeder screw, refill the brake fluid and bleed system. Make sure also that light goes out after testing and if the light didn’t turn off then the differential pressure pin of the Mercedes brake master cylinder should be reset.

How do I reattach my brake line?
I took off the my roter to change my cv axel, i took off the brake line but now i cant get it bake on. when i pump the brake it wont firm up. the nut seem to have a whole in for the fluid and im not if its lineing up right. Im down for the count. anyone have any ideas?

well the bolt is called a banjo bolt it goes through the line with the hole in it and then it screws into caliper and dont forget the brass washer it goes like this caliper,washer line and insert banjo bolt through brass hole in line and all is screwed into caliper ,, then after it is tight there is a bleeder valve on caliper it looks like a nipple sticking out kinda blunt with a hole in it and a nut mounted at base you have to pump up peddle 5 or 6 times and hold down tight and have someone open bleeder valve air will come out but do not release pressure on peddle as it will go to floor ao keep it pushed to floor and close bleeder valve and pump up peddle again and repeat 3 to 4 times untill all air is removed from line you will know because break peddle will firm up hard... and be sure you keep master cylinder full of break fluid when doing this....
