Here are some more information for Brakes Power:

Winches are very helpful accessories to have if you own a Jeep, pickup truck, or ATV. The main benefit of having a winch is the ability to pull something very heavy that would otherwise require a team of strong men to move or carry. They are not only handy in mud, snow, and woods, but in the sand also. Some models are more advanced and come standard with bells and whistles (not literally) like remote controls and safety shields. But regardless of the extra features you may want, you need to make sure your winch has the drums, cables, and brakes to get the job done for you.
Winch Drums and Cables
If a chain is no stronger than its weakest link, then a winch is no stronger than its cable. Make sure you get one strong enough to meet your needs. Cables are required to be rated for strength and durability and manufacturers are required to indicate how big a load their winch cables are capable of pulling.
Cables can be used in single or double-line pulling applications. Some Cable winches pull up to 60 feet without unhooking and resetting as when using conventional lever or hand chain hoists. Most winches differ with pulling capacity, motors speeds and cable type. These warn winches are powered by strong motor, strong cables and great pulling capacity. It's never a bad idea to have some spare cable for your winch.
Winch Brakes
Most of your higher quality winches utilize a brake, which can usually be found within the wire rope drum. This brake controls the load that is applied to the winch. The brake will generate a fair amount of heat within the drum itself. However, this energy is dissipated to prevent the winch from overheating. Even though most winch brakes are very reliable, make sure you keep your hands clear of wire rope and fairlead opening during operation and when spooling to avoid injury.
When it comes to winches mounted onto trucks and ATVs, you'll generally see two types of braking systems: dynamic and mechanical. The mechanical brake is just like the parking brake in your car. It operates via friction and is relatively easy to install. A dynamic winch brake makes use of the resistance offered by the winch motor in order to prevent the drum from cranking and turning freely. It's a natural braking mechanism built into the winch. Between these two brakes, there will usually be plenty of power available to stop your winch on demand.
Winches Can Save Your Life
Whether you make your living with your truck or if you're an avid 4-wheel drive enthusiast, a good strong winch can come in very handy. It can help you pull an otherwise impossible load out of the wilderness with ease. It can also pull your truck or jeep out of a hole in an emergency situation. Make sure you get the winch and accessories that meet your needs before you buy.
Are you considering a winch for your ATV or pickup truck? Make sure you get one that has the right strength, capacity, and extra features you need to get your job done right. WinchPower will give you the low down on what you should look for in a winch as well as what you should look out for. Mercedes Brake: Power Stoppage
One of the most vital elements to ensure you cruise with safety in your Mercedes is an excellent braking system. Of course, any braking system needs quality parts to make it powerful, like the Mercedes brakes made especially for the Mercedes cars.
Constructed of a series of components that work together to ensure a safe and controlled stop as you step on that brake pedal, the Mercedes brakes are truly functional. Its parts perform in a smooth and systematic process by creating all the friction needed to stop the motion of the wheels of any Mercedes vehicle. When the brake pedal is stepped on, the brake master cylinder increases the pressure in the hydraulic system, sending a surge of brake fluid via the hose at each wheel to the brake calipers. Powered by a strong system of hydraulic pressure, this all happens as the simple act of stepping on the brake pedal is done.
But here's a closer look on how the brakes in general work in the braking system. The piston inside the brake caliper uses the pressure applied by the hydraulic fluid to move a pair of brake pads. These brake pads are squeezed inwards and come in contact with the brake disc, gripping the brake disc tightly to induce friction so that the motion of the wheels are lessened or totally stopped. When the brake pedal is released, the pressure on the braking system decreases. Hence, the brake pads release their grip on the disc and the wheels return to motion.
Equipped with the latest innovations such as rotors in drilled and slotted form, Mercedes brakes ensure only high-performance automotive braking experience. After all, with Mercedes brakes, you get short stopping distances, lack of fade, drilled rotors without structural weaknesses and low dust production. Mercedes brakes are also heat-treated with special alloys for less fade and warping, resulting to both higher braking performance and a better look. With its superior make and function, the Mercedes brakes truly contribute in making the Mercedes driving experience a lot safer and easier.
Just remember to exercise proper care and maintenance with the Mercedes brakes. If a high-pitch squeal coming from the front of the car is hear, it may be time to replace the Mercedes brakes. After all, each part has its lifespan. In case the need for replacement comes, worry not as Mercedes brakes abound in the automotive market, what with the very high demand for it. Especially since Mercedes brakes are not just made to suit Mercedes cars – they also fit some non-Mercedes cars. And after all, when we talk about Mercedes brakes, we’re talking pad life. Friction. Performance. All the components needed for power braking quality to achieve the ultimate riding excursions every car owner seeks and desires.

What is the difference between power-assisted brakes and anti-lock brakes?
I am considering buying an '07 Toyota Matrix and the base b model only has power-assisted brakes. I have only ever driven cars with ABS. What would the difference be like?
That car probably has both for an option.
Power assist is just that, when you apply brake pedal pressure, you are assisted either hydraulically or by vacuum pressure provided by the engine.
No "power assist" would be called "manual brakes" which there is really no difference other than a little more effort to apply the brakes is required.
ABS or Anti Lock Brakes have nothing to do with power brakes. It is a separate system on the car to prevent wheel lock up (skidding) during hard braking to help maintain traction/control of the vehicle, especially in a panic stop situation.
ABS usually accompanies power assisted brakes in newer cars as ABS has become standard in most manufacturer and models. ABS is also redundant, if it fails or malfunctions, you will still have operational brakes, just without the ABS function.
If you were to compare (test drive) the ABS/Power assist versus a Power assist only car, you would probably tell no difference unless you are slamming on the brakes pretty hard!
Business groups seek to suspend California climate law
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A coalition of business groups turned in signature petitions Monday for a ballot initiative that would unravel Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's top environmental priority. If the California Jobs Initiative qualifies for the November ballot, as expected, voters will be asked to consider putting the brakes on the nation's most far-reaching global warming law. Schwarzenegger ...
