Imported cars are making waves in the US market, thanks to their fuel efficiency and competitive prices. This year, major Asian car manufacturers posted a jump in their January sales. The Toyota Motor Corporation seems to be setting the pace by breaking its sales record for the said month.

The influx of imported cars in the United States is felt so much by the three biggest car manufacturers based in the country. General Motors, Ford, and DaimlerChrysler this January only managed to get a little more than a half of the market share for the mentioned month. In contrast, the demand for imported cars, most notably Japanese ones, is continually growing. This is evident in the 49.4 percent share in the US market of all overseas car manufacturers combined.

The American International Automobile Dealers Association recently released a newsletter that predicted that total sales of all imported cars will amount to more than fifty percent of total sales in the market. The forecast, as stated by the industry's experts, reported that as soon as March of this year, the Big Three will lose their grip on the major part of the market. One of the main reasons for the prediction comes from the high anticipation of the public for the redesigned Honda Accord. The release of the Toyota Tundra is creating so much hype in the motoring public that it, too, will play a big role in the taking over of import cars of the US market.

While that may be the case, the difference between domestic and overseas car brands is getting smaller. This is due to the fact that auto manufacturers based in the United States produce cars from their plants located in other countries. Meanwhile, Asian car manufacturers have also their plants located in the United States and from there, they can produce the cars that will be sold in the country. As a matter of fact, Asian car manufacturers combined to sell four million vehicles in the US last year and these were all assembled in North American plants. Such is the trend now in the automobile industry therefore expanding the market globally for all car manufacturers.

The report comes on the heels of sales reports posted by different car manufacturers. Toyota has set a new sales record for the month of January with a jump of 9.5 percent over their January 2006 sales output. Honda also sold 100,790 vehicles for the first month this year which is their best ever performance for that period.

While Japanese car companies are racking up huge sales and besting their January 2006 outputs, General Motors and Ford has seen their sales slide from last year's figures. General Motors posted a drop of 16.6 percent while Ford sales fell 19 percent from January of 2006. With the success that Toyota is enjoying, the carmaker is set to take over the spot of Ford Motor Company as the second largest car manufacturer in the world.

If the current trend continues, Toyota will surpass even General Motors in the leader board. Also, it does seem like increased sales from Honda will help overseas car manufacturers take over the US market. The demand for fuel efficient vehicles are being addressed by these companies hence the continued demand for their cars. Indeed the climb to the top of Asian car makers seems unstoppable and may take an EBC brake rotor and a high quality brake caliper to halt their momentum. But one thing is clear about this, the consumers are the biggest winners in the said scenario, their demand for high quality vehicles is being answered by different car manufacturers whether they are based in the United States or in any other country.

New Vue Challenges Rav4, Cr-v

The Saturn brand lineup has been revitalized to make it more appealing to auto buyers. As part of General Motors’ aim to win back consumers, they have turned to German automaker Opel to help Saturn design its new vehicles. Aside from redesigning existing templates, Opel also introduced an all-new vehicle model in the form of the Saturn Outlook.

Aside from the Outlook, the revitalization of the Saturn lineup is also anchored on the Saturn Aura. The midsize sedan was recently named the 2007 North American Car of the Year, taking the distinction over the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. Complementing the Aura in Saturn's lineup is the Saturn Vue.

The nameplate is the best selling Saturn automobile. For the 2008 model year though, Saturn decided to redesign the crossover SUV. The compact Vue is now being seen as a serious competitor to established nameplates such as the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4. The redesigned Vue is also in direct competition with the Hyundai Santa Fe.

While the previous Vue is a good vehicle in terms of design, handling, and performance, its competitors offer more than the norms. Thus the redesigned Vue’s design was made to look even better than its predecessor. The performance is also improved. Indeed, although the new Vue shares its name wit its predecessor, it is a whole new vehicle on its own.

With Opel’s help, the Vue was designed with clean but muscular lines. European car styling cues have been integrated into the designing of the vehicle. The revision in the exterior design of the Vue made it look bulkier. With rounded of edges, the new Vue exudes an aura of friendliness yet the wheels are positioned that it gave the Vue an aggressive stance.

The redesigning of the Vue does not hide the fact that it comes from Saturn. The snub-nosed Vue with its grille accented by the Saturn badge is unmistakably a Saturn. Another Saturn-trademark is the headlight configuration which seems to have a jagged edge. This is something that was dome to the headlight of the 2007 Vue. The redesigned Vue though has that jagged edge in the headlight more pronounced.

Car buyers can choose from a wide choice of Vue variants. Two trim levels, two drive configurations - the Red Line and the Green Line - are the choices for auto buyers. The Red Line is the more sports-oriented Vue while the Green Line is a hybrid Vue. If one is looking for performance from a Vue, the Red Line is the obvious choice. With its responsive steering, good stability, and maximum stopping power provided by Saturn brake calipers, the Red Line is aimed for performance enthusiasts.

The Green Line, on the other hand, uses General Motors’ “mild hybrid” technology. This means that while it is equipped with an internal combustion engine ad an electric motor, it cannot be driven by battery power alone. Nevertheless, the Saturn Vue Green Lien provides better fuel economy than its base model. With tax incentives offered with hybrid vehicles, the Saturn Vue Green Line is being considered by many as the cheapest variant of the Vue.

The changes made to the Saturn Vue in terms of performance and design would go a long way to making the compact SUV a strong contender in its segment. Going up against established nameplates such as the RAV4 and the CR-V, the Vue is equipped with what it needs to come out on top.

Ever change brake pads/rotor on a 4-cyl 2006 Toyota Camry?

I recently bought a full set of 4 Brembo ventiled disc rotors and Monroe ceramic pads for my 2006 Camry (4-cylinder) front and back. It has 85,000 miles, so it's time. I have my jack, stands, C-clamp, extra Dot4 fluid, anti-squeal compound, brake cleaner (for the rotors), and a set of allen wrenches to loosen the calipers.

Has anyone ever done this before on this car specifically, and anything I need to look out for in particular (tricky spots?) The brakes have never been changed before, and so I wonder if the caliper bolts will be impossible to loosen, or if there are any other brake wear indicator clips I have to remove.

Put brake grease on the pins after you wipe them off. Also, don't get anything on the pads, such as, anti-squeal compound or you'lll have to buy new pads.

1994 Toyota Camry from North America - Comments
What things have gone wrong with the car? Front brake caliper seized at 158000. Exhaust system leaked at flexible tube before catalytic converter.
