Necessity of taking out check valve in WI winter. If yes, how do you do it?

I had a sump pump put in last spring, and was told to have the check valve taken out for the winter because winters get below zero. If it is necessary, I don't know how to do this. Can someone help?

There's no rhyme or reason to remove the check valve. The only area you should be concerned about is the exterior discharge, making sure it's properly pitched, so there's no standing water in the pipes. Everything on the inside should work just fine so long as the outside is set up properly. You need the check valve in place so that your'e not recycling the ground water, as not all the water discharged actually goes outside- a small percentage of it sits in the pipe above the check valve.
