Is the 1986 corolla sr5 a gas saver?

I am a full time college student and have to commute 1 hour 3 days a week to school. I made up my mind to buy this corolla and was thinking if it is as good as my civic. The deal is really good and it's the hatchback that everyone wants and I'm buying it for only 800 dollars. I also want to know what I need to do to convert it to a GTS model.

Im think if u want to convert it to a GTS model, why dont u just buy one instead for like an extra 500-1000k. Saves u effort and time. Looking for legit engines that the sellers are honest can be pretty difficult. U'd need a complete 4AGE swap. And if u do end up going for a swap, u should consider the 4AGE 20V Blacktop/Silvertop which came with the JDM cars. Those are really fun engines man (but not as economical, the BT has 170 hp stock). i currently have an AE92 GTS (1989 rolla) and its pretty good on gas. It has a bigport 4AGE 16V. i can drive 400km cruising at 120km/hour and ill still have about 1/4th of my fuel still there. Mind u i do an occasional 140km/hr spike.
