The Volvo clutch disc is basically a steel plate, covered with a frictional material that is located between the flywheel and the pressure plate. In the center of the disc is the hub, which is designed to fit over the spines of the input shaft of the transmission. do you reall have to resurface your discs every time you replace brake pads?

just had breaks replaced on a toyoa sequoia. the dealership insisted that they resurface the discs every time they replace the pads.

i seem to recall this was previously done only when running through the pads until you hit metal...

did they take me for a ride or is it standard practice?

It's not always necessary. If there is any grooves or glazing (shiny) then you should. Being a bigger vehicle they may tend to glaze more which would need resurfacing. They probably do it on every vehicle to stop customer comebacks in case there is a problem if they don't machine them.

Nobody listen to that last comment; it's not true, that chart is wrong. I didn't look through it for long, just until I noticed my car, a Focus 2.0 Zetec, and it says that the 1.8 Zetec is just 0.1 seconds slower.
