With the quality of our air being increasingly threatened everyday and lands and oceans polluted to no end, we as a society have come together to help find new ways to slow down our destruction of Mother Earth. We continue to advance our knowledge and technologies allowing us to recycle many materials gone to waste in the past. But recycling is only part of the solution. You can't stop hazardous waste if you don't know it's being produced. With over 250 million passenger vehicles on the road today in the United States alone literally emitting thousands of tons of brake dust into the air and onto the ground, the wear and tear of brake pads is more serious than most of us realize. Harmful dust hazards resulting from brake pads wearing can include the releasing of dust particles of metals into the air and onto the ground such as copper and lead, organic and inorganic fibers and even asbestos from brake pads for specific product requirements and commercial applications. Keep in mind, not only cars and trucks use disc brakes and pads, so do certain mountain bikes, motorcycles, aircraft, and even trains which kick out wear debris every time the brake is applied.
The EBC Brake Group is a privately owned company that has been manufacturing brake discs and disc brake pads since 1978 for cars, trucks, motorcycles, A.T.V.'s, 4 wheelers, go karts and mountain bikes. Brakes that have always shared an environmentally conscious characteristic addressing these unseen pollutants. For many of their years in business, EBC has greatly decreased levels of dangerous dust debris from its disc brake and brake pads by simply doing away with toxic ingredients and chemicals commonly found in the disc brake and brake pads industry. Disc brakes and brake pads manufactured with the utmost respect and preservation of the environment as it's number one goal. That's what has made EBC Brakes a leader in disc brakes and brake pads minimizing harmful, possibly toxic brake dust debris into the atmosphere.
Quality comes standard with all EBC brake pads and disc brake products. Every single batch of pads manufactured by EBC is subjected to multiple rigorous and uncompromising tests including, but not limited to, destructive sheer testing, density testing, compressibility testing, ultrasonic and sonar testing and even testing of friction levels to always deliver guaranteed perfection with their pads. The result- reliable, durable environmentally friendly pads and products built to last longer with less wear keeping hazardous debris released into the atmosphere to a minimal.
EBC brake pads come in an assorted range of performance depending on specific utilization and application of the brake pads. For starters, there's the Greenstuff Sport Series pads consisting of three ranges. The 2000 series for compact sport vehicles and hatchback models. The 6000 series for trucks and SUV's, and the 7000 series low dust for truck and SUV's. Since its initial launch in 1997, the Greenstuff Series has sold over three million sets of performance automotive brakes and pads all across the globe.
For those of you interested in the street scene, EBC's Redstuff Series brake pads are designed for vehicles with more than 200Bhp. Redstuff pads will reduce dust even greater while increasing breaking potential by up to 30% compared to some OEM brake systems and factory pads. Less dust from the pads equals less wear and tear on the rotors which, in the long run, can almost double the life expectancy of the rotors.
If your going to the race track with massive horsepower or just towing some really heavy cargo, EBC's Yellowstuff Series brake pads might be the ticket. These pads make for a great upgrade for truck and SUV brake systems. Yellowstuff pads will however produce similar amounts of dust as OEM style brake pads but with more stopping power.
Finally, EBC's Bluestuff Series offers quality race style pads that minimize disc wear, harshness and noise. Bluestuff pads take highway safety very seriously and after countless hours of testing, these brakes are some of the best offered on the market today. Not to mention, an inexpensive way to upgrade vehicle performance.

All-new Pontiac G8 to Unleash in 2008
Though the 2008 Pontiac G8 will be available in dealerships early next year, Pontiac introduced its all-new, rear-wheel-drive performance sedan at the Chicago Auto Show.
As the first North American application of General Motors (GM) new global rear-wheel-drive architecture, the G8 is developed by GM’s Australian subsidiary Holden.
The G8 has a styling packages such as a dual-port grille, fog lamps, bold wheels and a confident, wheels-at-the-corners stance. The design accents the car's performance lineage, with fenders that flare over the wheels, seemingly hugging the wide tires, making it very sporty.
Distinctive elements include hood scoops and front fender vents, and projector-beam headlamps housed in crystal-clear lenses. Jewel-like tail lamps are found at the rear. These are mounted in housings and feature bright detail work surrounding the red lighting elements. G8 models all have red tail lamp lenses and twin chrome exhaust outlets. At the rear of the roof, all models have a mounted antenna.
On its power train,
the base G8 model has a 3.6L DOHC V-6 with variable valve timing. Rated at 261 horsepower (194 kW), it is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.
Combined to give the G8 a confident, sharp driving experience are the 114.8-inch (2915 mm) wheelbase, 62.7 inches / 1592 mm wide front and 63.3 inches / 1608 mm rear tracks. These give a fully adjustable, four-wheel independent suspension system.
In the rear, the four-wheel independent suspension system has a MacPherson strut design in the front and a four-link coil-over-shock design. Tuning uses a direct-acting front stabilizer bar, decoupled rear stabilizer bar and lateral ball joints on the rear suspension. This system transcends increased lateral stiffness for enhanced handling.
The front suspension features fully adjustable caster, camber and toe while the rear suspension has fully adjustable camber and toe, which enables more precise, tailored suspension tuning.
When starting the engine, the brand assured that the Pontiac exhaust will release gases smoothly, making it more comfortable for the driver as well as the persons outside the car who will breathe in the exhausted gases.
As to its four-wheel disc brake system, the car has standard anti-lock and traction control features. The system is partnered with a standard electronic stability control system. Its features vented front and rear disc rotors, with twin-piston alloy calipers in front. The rear brakes feature alloy calipers with single-piston actuation.
The G8's interior delivers both comfort and convenience, packaged in a level of sophistication not often found in other cars within its price range. A driver-oriented instrument cluster positions the gauges for easy, direct line of sight. Between the large, round tachometer and speedometer, an electronic driver information center is located.
Attention catcher details include jewel-like instruments, selective use of satin and chrome trim and rich-feeling, grained textures throughout. The instrument cluster glows with crisp. While white light on the primary instruments and Pontiac’s signature red lighting enlightens the rest of the instrument panel cluster.
The seats offer firm support to hold passengers and occupants in place during aggressive cornering. As an option, the G8 models will also offer two-tone cloth or leather combination that pairs black with either red or blue inserts and color-matched instrument faces on certain exterior color combinations.
With an all-new Pontiac exhaust system, G8 uses 362-horsepower (270 kW) 6.0L V-8 engine and optional six-speed manual transmission.
Pontiac General Manager John Larson said the company’s commitment to its performance DNA is showed in the balance of rear-wheel drive and the availability of V-8 power in G8. He further said they expect this vehicle to be very competitive in the segment where it belongs, even against cars that cost far more expensive.

Can I replace my brake pads without replacing the brake rotors?
I recently began driving a 1997 Ford Explorer AWD V8, and I noticed by doing a visual pre-trip that the brake pads look extremely thin on the entire truck. Both axles use pads and discs, no drums. Since I can't afford to have all the parts replaced, could I just replace the pads(since they are what need the most attention) or is it best to replace the rotors/discs at the same time? Thanks.
a quick and easy test is to feel the steering wheel when braking, is there pulsation? If so replace the front rotors too, if not leave them alone. Is there pulsation in the brake peddle? If so change the rear rotors, if not leave them alone. I would how ever recommend rubbing the discs with emery cloth before you install the new pads, just helps the new pads set up and not glaze, not a big deal but worth the small effort to do it. I have replaced pads on badly worn rotors on my own vehicles in the past and while its not the right or optimal thing to do if you don't have the money for rotors at least make sure you can stop.
2003 Dodge Dakota Sport review from North America
What things have gone wrong with the car? Connection at HVAC fan resistor is damaged from a previous 'short/burn out", and it works intermittently. Have to wiggle the wire harness at times to get it going again.
