The Dodge Durango Has Loads Of Standard Safety Features

Production of the Dodge Durango sport-utility vehicle was discontinued in late 2008, but some unsold 2009 models remain available.

The 2009 Durango has standard front and side airbags, plus side curtain airbags that Dodge claims provide head protection to passengers in all three seating rows. It does not have seat belt pre-tensioners or other pre-collision systems. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the Durango its maximum five-star rating for driver and passenger protection in frontal collisions, but did not test its side-impact protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not tested the most recent Durango model.

The Durango comes standard with four-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction control, and Dodge's Electronic Stability Program (ESP), which uses the ABS and traction control to prevent oversteer or understeer in turns. Despite the standard ESP, the 2WD Durango received a mediocre three-star rating in NHTSA rollover testing; 4WD models received four stars, comparable to other SUVs.

Testers find the truck-based Durango's emergency handling somewhat cumbersome compared to newer, more car-like crossover SUVs. Some reviewers complain that the Durango is slow to react in sudden maneuvers, although panic stopping distances are good for its weight. A useful feature for buyers who tow regularly is the available Trailer Sway Control system, which detects erratic trailer movements and applies individual brakes to prevent the trailer from wandering.

Other safety equipment includes a ParkSense rear obstacle-detection system, standard on Limited and SLT models, and a ParkView rear-vision camera, which is standard on the Limited and optional on the SLT. SLT and Limited models also have a standard a tire-pressure monitoring system; the SE model uses a tire-pressure warning lamp instead.

Yes the 03 has abs it comes standard with 2 wheel abs 4 wheel abs is an option as it doesent come standard on the 03 there is an r/t model sxt slt and sport i have an 03 slt heated leather servo seats towpackage 4wd and awd 4 wheel abs fog lights 6 disc cd changer and on and on but the only drawback is i get 12 mpg highway in it lol
