The said vehicle is a gas-electric hybrid vehicle: meaning it is equipped with a small internal combustion engine and an electric motor which provides additional power to the small gasoline engine. Toyota claims that the Prius can run for 65.7 miles for a single gallon of gasoline. This claim though is being contested as unrealistic by some consumers who have already bought a Prius.

How powerful is 1000cc?

I have been looking at a Toyota Vitz (Echo, or Yaris) and was extremely interested until a friend of mine said that 1000cc's isn't going to be enough to even get three people up a small hill. This concerned me but I really love this car. I like to travel with friends and have 3 people in the car with me when travelling. Is 1000cc reliable, or will I need something a bit larger - such as 2000cc ?

It is not the power (engine cc) that counts. You should look at the ratio of the power of the car to the weight. Greater the ratio, better is the acceleration. You should therefore compare this ratio amongst various car of your choice and choose the one with the highest ratio. It will give the greatest power for each kg of the car. Again instead of going simply by the engine cc compare the horse power data that the brochures give. For the same engine cc, different manufacturers give different horse power.
