What is a better buy, 2005 Toyota Matrix or 2007 Hyundai Elantra?

I am buying a used car, and I have narrowed my options down to a sharp looking 2005 Toyota Matrix and an even sharper 2007 Hyundai Elantra. Both are $8,999. Given a perfect world and no extra needed repairs or work, which car is the better buy (in terms of performance, value, depreciation, etc)

The Elantra is the better car. Your comparing Hyundai's newest generation Elantra to Toyota's previous generation Matrix. It has a stronger engine then the Matrix, 138 HP the Matrix's 130 and it still gets better gas mileage, 35 MPG to the Matrix's 33 MPG.
