Auto parts (U.S.) right side? left side? vs. driver side, passenger side?
We have a car that needs brake work. My husband took it to an automotive school to get repaired (at a significant labor discount) and got a list of the parts we need to purchase. The instructor listed the parts as on the sheet as "right front caliper", "left front caliper". All depends on which way one is facing the car, what is left and right? The parts catalog lists them as "drivers" and "passengers"? I need some clarification. Thanks!
Normally, people in the business would refer to the side of a car from the perspective while sitting in the driver's seat. Therefore, left should be drivers side. Even when dealing with the U.K. or Japan, it should be the side of your body while sitting in the car, unless stated otherwise. If they say passenger or driver, then it depends on the car, which can be a problem here on Yahoo! Answers, if someone doesn't mention they're from England. LOL
