Have you ever wondered the right way to check your bike? Perhaps you did very long rides with your new bike for the past one month. As we all know it, bicycles consist of different mechanical structures and components. We also know very well that mechanical parts often break down and wear and tear.

Often times, our instincts as cyclists are right. For all the times we have spent riding our treasured bikes, we know how it performs, its limits and when it will give problems. When you suspect your bike needs an inspection, be sure to do it right away.

First off, you will need a pen and paper. You should be prepared to jot down whatever issues that will cause problems for your bike. In addition, this extra note will be very handy for you if you decide to take your bike to the mechanics for repair.

Check the bike frame. See whether there are any cracks, voids or anything related. Although scratches are heartbreaking to find, these are not as serious as any deep gashing or micro cracks. What if you notice there are some cracks? You should then check its welding. See if the crack affects the welding or not. Welding will be the part where one end of the tube joins another end of another tube.

You should never ride your bike even with a minor crack. A crack can propagate and cause a bigger crack, resulting in a structural failure. In fact, you should even double check by flipping your bike upside down for any further cracks. For a new bike, take it back to the dealer for warranty issues.

After your bike frame, you should check the tires. See if there are any cuts or damage, especially the ones that are hiding underneath a layer of dirt. Turn your wheels and see if they spin straight (and smoothly) and not wobble from side to side. Bent spokes and dented rims also pose serious problems which should be rectified early.

Next, examine your brake pads. You will notice that brake pads have a few lines that is perpendicular to the brake pad. The depths of these lines indicate the wear level. If the lines are not visible anymore, then it is time to change brake pads immediately. See if there are any grit or dirt stuck at the brake pads too.

You should also check the brake cable, especially at the brake lever. This is because the brake cable will most likely break at that point. At the brake lever, maximum pressure is applied to the cable. Without the cables, there will be no brakes.

Lastly, you should inspect your crank set. Check for lost chain ring bolts. They are known to fall off without reason. See if the chain ring teeth are bent or not. Usually, the teeth for mountain bikes' chain rings will get bent because of the higher load when riding in harsh conditions and styles.

Now that you know how to check bikes, take the time to read about men's cycling shorts and find out about descente cycling shorts.

Stopping Squealing Brakes

Stopping the vehicle is one of the essential parts of driving. We have all been driving down the road at one time or another, just to hear the squeaking of breaks that come along with vehicles that are driving by. Sometimes, it's our own vehicles that are making these squeaky brakes. Many drivers are unaware of the problems that can come with squeaking brakes. Did you know that this often an indication of brakes that have been worn down, or brakes that need attention from a mechanic or other vehicle professional?

What causes brakes to squeak? Vibrations that come through the breaks squeaking can cause the irritating squeaking that we have come to know. The high frequency of the vibrations results in the high pitch squeaking. Alternatively, the squeaking can come from the disc that secures the brakes, when the vehicle is coming to a stop.

How are brake problems fixed? Many times, the complete brake system requires replacing to correct the problem that is associated with the squeaking brakes, other times. The brake pads, brake discs and shoes can all be replaced when the brakes begin to squeak because the surfaces on the brakes are exposed to each other without any padding.

Sometimes, new brakes have been known to squeal immediately after they have been replaced. If this is the case, give the brakes a few days to measure if the noise has subsided. If not, return to the mechanic to have the breaks examined to ensure that all components were installed correctly.

Did you know that depending on when the squealing of the brakes is present, than it can help to diagnose the problem? Did you know that a constant squeaking or squealing could mean that the brakes have dirt, grime or even a stone stuck within the mechanism? If the brake noises stop and start throughout the duration of the trip than it could mean that the brake pads are wearing down. Regardless of the noise coming from the vehicle, it is important to have the problem checked by a mechanic immediately, as it can mean there are serious safety issues occurring within the vehicle: after all, it is important that we are able to stop the vehicle when necessary, quickly and with ease.

Brakes are an essential part to the vehicle, therefore ease should be taken when choosing to install the brakes at home. Sometimes, errors can occur which can decrease the effectiveness of the brakes when they are truly required. If you choose to install your brakes at home, you should have proper know-how about technique, procedure and specific trouble shooting tips for brake installation.

Many drivers are unaware of the fact that brakes squeaking can be difficult to diagnose and can be even more difficult to stop. Did you know that in many vehicle manuals, brake squeaking is defined as being a normal function of the vehicle, as there is no liability to the auto Production Company, or warranty? For this reason, check your brakes - know your vehicle and be ready to take it into a licensed mechanic.

Soft brakes after changing brake pads, bleeding, and replacing master cylinder? What else could it be?

2002 Honda Accord LX V6 with ABS brake system. Took the car to midas for a regular brake pad change after squealers were heard. Right after I got my car back, the brake pedal suddenly felt soft, and if I pushed with a little extra force, the pedal hit the floor. So after bleeding the brakes, Midas said it was a leak in the master cylinder and it was coincidental. After a little arguing, I got them to replace the master cylinder at no charge. However, the pedal feels a little better, but it's still extremely soft. Again, with a little extra force, I could push the pedal until it almost hits the floor. What else could it be? This has been hell. All I initially went for was a routine brake pad change.

There is STILL air in the brake system.

1994 Mitsubishi Pajero LWB High Top from UK and Ireland - Comments
"Bomb-proof!" What things have gone wrong with the car? Replaced front and rear brakes (calipers, discs and pads). Replaced glow plugs.
