When you apply your brakes, do they squeal like a pig?

It's not the braking part of the pad that is making the noise.

The high-pitched sound you hear is the metal part of the brake pads that is vibrating.

After the pads get worn some they get loose, and vibrate.

You can have them changed, or change them yourself (yes, you can do it, I'll show you how sometime).

But, sometimes aftermarket pads are just not perfectly machined and will not fit the calipers snugly.

Sound silly? Think about how many times that rotor is going around, even at 30mph. The rotor is the round shiny disk that the brake pads rub against.

Ever hear a wood-pecker when he is hunting a bug in a tree?..............I can't even type that fast.

His quick and constant pecking sounds like a machine gun going off!

That's about how fast, or faster, that your metal plate is slapping against the metal on the caliper eiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

The caliper is the metal coconut looking thing that the brake pads fit into and connect to the rotor when you apply the brakes.

Now, don't put any grease on the pad next to the rotor to keep it quite...it will be quite, but it won't STOP! ?º

Personally, I'm not much on *turning* rotors. That's when the machine takes metal off to make it smooth.

If the rotor is too warped you should have it refinished.

How will you know it is warped?

When you put your foot on the brake petal and apply pressure to slow down or stop, does the petal go *up and down* in a pulsating motion?

Yes? Then the rotors are out of round and should be turned. That, you can't do; unless you have a brake lathe!

Hondajet Comes Closer to Production

Honda Aircraft Company, Inc. (HACI), has taken the next major step in delivering HondaJet to its customers. The company has broken ground for its new 369,000 square foot headquarters and manufacturing facility at Piedmont Triad International (PTI) airport in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The move is another step closer to the production of the innovative HondaJet – the first of which Honda Aircraft is planning to deliver to customers in 2010.

The Greensboro complex includes 219,000 square feet of offices and an airplane hangar, set to be completed in the spring of 2008, as well as a 150,000-square-foot production facility.

All major assembly and testing of the prototype HondaJet has been conducted at the company's existing Greensboro facility, which opened in 2001 as an extension of Honda's global R&D operations. The HondaJet production facility, according to a company press release, will become the Japanese automaker's seventeenth major manufacturing plant in North America, including two currently under construction in Indiana and Ontario, Canada. Honda already has a $188 million North Carolina manufacturing facility, near Swepsonville, that has been producing general purpose engines, lawn mowers and other power equipment products since 1984.

The HondaJet is the Honda's first commercial aircraft, with seating for up to eight passengers. Honda has stated that about 90 percent of the components for the jet will be supplied by North American companies.

Do I need to reset the brake caliper if I replace the rotor?

I'm replacing the front passenger side brake rotor and want to know if I will need to reset the brake caliper afterwards (like when you replace the brake pads and you have to reset the caliper). Or can I just take the caliper off, replace the rotor, and then put the caliper back?

IF YOU CAN FIT A ROTOR IN, THEN U DONT HAVE TO. BUT MOST OF THE TIME, CAUSE NEW ROTORS ARE WIDER, YOU HAVE TO SQUEEZE THE CALIPER...

Off-side brake caliper seized due to perished rubber seal. Bulb in tail light blew. How cool was this car! If only I'd kept it. I bought it as an "Emergency Run-around" as my piece of crap Nissan 200SX kept breaking down and was back at the dealers for over 2 months.
