Here are some more information for Pontiac Firebird:

"By the late 1980s," said a recent Associated Press article announcing the demise of the Pontiac brand at the end of October, "Pontiacs were taking off their muscle shirts, putting on suits and trying to act like other cars. The brand had lost its edge."
"...acting like other cars..." What a telling phrase...
Once upon a time, as the article pointed out, the Pontiac brand stood for something: "Models like the GTO and Trans Am were packed with horsepower and sported colors like 'Tiger Gold.'" A brawny Firebird Trans Am was as much a star of the 1970s hit movie "Smokey and the Bandit" as were Burt Reynolds and Sally Field.
So how was Pontiac brought so low? According to the AP article: "Bill Hoglund, a retired GM executive who led Pontiac during its 'We Build Excitement' ad campaigns in the 1980s, blames the brand's demise on a reorganization under CEO Roger Smith in 1984. That overhaul cut costs by combining Pontiac's manufacturing, engineering and design operations with those of other GM brands."
In other words, Pontiac became a "me too" brand, with no noticeable difference between it and a Buick and Oldsmobile. Oldsmobile went a year or so ago. Now Buick appears to be the last man standing.
What lessons can we learn from the Pontiac tragedy? Well, one might be to not let accountants run the marketing department.
But another and even more crucial one for marketers is the absolute importance of standing out, of being unique in today's overcrowded marketplace. I am far from the first to articulate this essential lesson. Marketing masters like Seth Godin, Jay Conrad Levinson and Al Reis, to name just a few, have all been preaching that same gospel for years.
But, perhaps the most trenchant observation of all came from management guru Tom Peters, "You are either DIStinct, or you are EXtinct (emphasis added)."
Rest in peace, poor Pontiac, you were the innocent victim of "me too" marketing.

About the Author
What are the strong points of a Pontiac Firebird & how do they compare to other muscle cars.?
Which pontiac firebird model is the most improved/reliable: 00, 01, or 02. Pros and Cons?
Personally, I like LS1(98-02) models more so, the TransAm. I purchased a brand new black 98 M6 T/A back in 97 and owned it until 01. When it got totaled and then, I went over to my present ride of the 02 A4 Camaro Z28.
Which if, I remember corrently the 98 model still had the OBDI 'puter in it. Then, The General switch over to the OBDII on-board 'puters. Which was known as the black box. Where it recorded the events before and durin an accident, like speed, braking and some other stuff. Which the OBDI on-board 'puter did not.
Check out the sites below. To get some more info on 'em.
Good luck!
Where the stars are built, not born
The makers of "Bullitt" reportedly put together that film's legendary car chase in 1968 using two 1968 Dodge Chargers and two 1968 Ford Mustangs. In 1977, the director Hal Needham recalls, all of the mayhem in "Smokey and the Bandit" was accomplished with five black 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Ams.
