Here are some more information for Rear Calipers:

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is inspired by the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR design. Co-developed by DaimlerChrysler and McLaren Cars, this sports car/super car hybrid can go from 0 to 62 in 3.6 seconds with a bas price tag of $455,500.00 (this includes the $ 3000.00 gas-guzzler tax and $ 2500.00 freight). It is often assumed that "SLR" stands for Sportlich, Leicht, Rennsport (translated as Sport; Light; Racing), but it really means Super-leicht, Rennsport (Super-light, Racing). A new version was presented in 2006 called "Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 edition". The "722" commemorates the 1955 Mille Miglia victory of Stirling Moss and his co-driver Dennis Jenkinson with their Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR (722 refers to 7:22 am which happens to be their start time)
AMG technicians optimized the capacities of the original SL-55 engine by enlarging the fuel pump and cylinders and placed a larger cooling system for the engine. This modification produced a 5.5 liter dry sumped V8 and an unusual 3 valves per cylinder with SOHC. This is contrary to the prevalent design of super cars that uses DOHC and 4 valves per cylinder. The engine is also uniquely mounted in the front-mid section of the vehicle, which is 1 meter behind the front bumper and 50 cm from the front axle. Because of the great engine power of this car, fade resistant, carbon-ceramic based brake plates are used with calipers that would automatically skim the surface of the brake plates to keep them dry when driving in a wet situation. Spoilers are also mounted on the rear and pops up when breaking at high speeds. The SLR has a five-speed automatic transmission that comes with three separate modes: Sport, Comfort and Manual. Sport is mainly for everyday use while Comfort is for bumpy roads and lastly, Manual that allows the driver to shift gears with the touchpad or the levers on the steering wheel. The transmission used in the SLR is the same with other performance models such as the SL65. However, the SLK-55 engine cannot handle the torque and power output of the SLR therefore a five-speed transmission is used.
The SLR has a top speed of 208 mph making it the fastest automatic car in the world until 2005, when the Bugatti Veyron came into the picture. The SLR makes use of carbon fiber for its body, which supposed to make it lighter but the car still weighs at 3898 pounds after adding all the luxury items included. In 2004, the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport tested the SLR at the Nardo test track in southern Italy. And reported that the car's quarter-mile time is 11.5 seconds. Top Gear host, Jeremy Clarkson, notably praised the SLR for how easy it is to drive even at top speed. On the same episode of Top Gear, Jeremy was able to out run a 25000 bhp cruise liner in a race with co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May from London to Oslo (1320 miles). The SLR is often categorized as a "grand touring car" rather than a "super car" because it is extremely fast yet does not sacrifice comfort.

Guide to Buying Calipers
Calipers are obtainable from supply stores for most automobiles. The prices of them range depending on the type of vehicle. Some companies have repair kits that are offered for you to do it yourself, but the availability of the repair kits depends on the model of the vehicle. Most of the time, they do not have repair kits for classic models of vehicles. Moreover, it is recommended to change and replace the Calipers that determine your vehicle's brake capacity. It is not a good attitude to replace or change Calipers only when you notice that here is a leak or stickyness.
1. Rear Calipers
Commonly, rear Calipers are quite costly than the front Calipers. This is because of the numerous components integrated in the hand brakes. Most of the time, newly manufactured calipers are hugely expensive. It is impractical to buy a caliper that would cost you a fortune. However, rebuilt Calipers are sold and can be bought from several suppliers and may either come with brake pads or not. Different manufacturers give diverse qualities. It is recommended that you buy Calipers with no attachments in it, like brake pads. You can try to buy them separately in order to choose from the best suppliers of Calipers as well as brake pads. Worn out components can effortlessly cause screeching because of the vibration created. So it is strongly advised that you check on your Calipers often and monitor them habitually to avoid rush or to minimize further damage to your vehicle.
2. Maximum Performance
Every caliper should be coordinated with its brake pad materials to maximize performance and stability. The caliper design must also be attuned and standardized to synchronize it with each vehicle activity. With thorough notice on the integration of the caliper and other brake systems materials, its performance and durability is prolonged and optimized. For example, the caliper width should and piston rollback should go with the attributes of the friction materials.
- Designed properly
- Lessen squeaking
- Integrated power absorption
- Helps attain or even go beyond break pad lifelines
- Various types are commercially available
- Caliper technology innovations
3. Features vs Price
Their prices, however, have a lot to say about their features. Some advancement includes fully-sealed caliper slide mechanism and pad slides that are protected from corrosion. The two-piece pins are for lessened drags. With this, the wear life is optimized and the noise is minimized. The caliper slide mechanism utilizes a guide scheme that is laden between the pads to prevent clatters. Caliper pad retraction springs detach the pads and the pistons. This scheme lessens residual drag. And stainless steel pads are lined to maintain minimal pad slide in a corrosive location. It is appropriate to buy calipers tested for aspects like noise, strength, fluid displacement, seepage and stamina. In return, this will eventually provide minimal brake pounding and optimized feel. It is necessary to determine the appropriateness for a particular need is essential to the general functioning of the brake system.
4. Calipers For Racing
First of all, it should be lightweight and resist heat efficiently over time under extreme temperatures. Most caliper manufacturers furnish their products with a protective black finish to combat corrosion as well hasten heat indulgence. Some Calipers are sheltered by a high temperature dampening product. Furthermore, some companies sell those that have features like dust-proof to prevent the accommodation of dirt. With this, the pistons and other parts are protected from breaks and corrosion. Aside from that, this would surely prolong the life and improve the durability of the other brake pad components. Some are painted and furnished by gold or black color. Sometimes, other materials are mixed and put into intended for added defense. Most hi-spec Calipers use these to attain enhanced efficiency and durability. Make sure that the type of caliper that you buy is ideally suited and matched for your automobile needs. In totality, be sure that you buy the good kind pistons, brake pads and other components to go with your Calipers.

I have an 05 volvo s40 rear calipers and e-brake issues...?
I had my car taken in for the 60k service 10/09...when I got the car back..i noticed the e-brake was loose and noticed that when I came to a stop and then started to drive..the the right passenger side of the car would lift up..went back to the dealership 11/09..they said i must have gone over a bump and dislodged the e-brake cable...is that actually possible? they supposedly fixed the problem. now its 4/10 and the e-brake has become loose again..but now i have to have the right rear caliper replaced b/c it is burned out..how does that happen? does anyone know anything about 05 volvo s40 2.4i 5 speed stick autos?? does this caliper have anything to do with the e-brake issue earlier on?? They want to charge me $1300.00 for this! HELP!! I know nothing about cars!!!
this design caliper is also used on ford focus and mazda 3 [the s-40 floorpan is shared with these other manufactures.]
re-manufactured calipers are available, rotors for this app. are not expensive, and pads are as expensive as you want [the cheap ones really are junk].
these calipers do require a special tool to retract the piston when servicing just the pads,
however it sounds like you need to start fresh, and this should include getting a second estimate from another shop.
note when this model first came out a customer had issue with one of their calipers, i replaced it with the first available re-man unit, which leaked upon installation. the next one ordered from a different re-manufacturer and actually turned out to be a NEW unit [this one worked fine. it was neu-.
geon brand]
what i'm saying is, that there is junk out there and not all of it is low bid but 1300 bucks to fix the brakes at one end of this car is more than excessive.
good luck i hope your next estimate is more reasonable
Mercedes AMG pulls out stops
The compact C-Class cars are the most popular Mercedes-Benzes in this country. But only a few get the AMG treatment, where a handcrafted V-8 #8212; complete with the name of the engine builder on it #8212; is stuffed under the hood and big brakes and tires go into the wheel wells.
