Many seemed confused by the laces, and several workers knelt to help tie them.

How to set brake shoe adjuster for drum brakes?

So, replaced the brake shoes on my truck. Do i need to set the brake shoe adjuster to any specific position? Or will it adjust itself as I press the pedal? It does have a wire which supposed to automatically adjust, but i wasn't sure if i need to set to any specific setting before puttin on the drum.

When you do brakes and all the parts are on it is most likely that your also to adjust the rear brakes up to where you have a slight drag on the shoes.But the way to do this is to adjust them up all the way to the brake drums and then back them off so the drum can turn freely.I don't know what what year of truck you have if you had that on here my information would be of more help to you on how to do this.With self adjusters they only work when you are going backwards to stop this is what makes the adjusters work to adjust up the brake shoes to the drums.But when doing so you got to hold the emergency brake handle pulled up while stepping on the emergency foot brake each time so the brake shoes are adjusting up to the drums.The adjustment for the emergency handle goes by how many clicks when stepping down on the foot brake.You sit there and listen for each click of the foot brake and count them.And it should be somewhere around 5 clicks or so but don't hold the emergency handle release while doing this.Go down with it and release it each time you do it.Do it several times to get the right adjustment on the emergency brake foot feed with the cables.They will pull the cables to adjust the brake shoes up.Adjust the shoes up first then adjust the brake cable adjuster underneath the truck.But remember each time you go backwards to adjust the shoes up you got to be going 15 to 20 miles an hr. backward while stepping down on the emergency foot brake handle but keep the handle released while doing this.Find a empty parking lot somewhere and do while doing this.Any questions you have email me at hgm20002000@yahoo.com
