I have had the luxury of being able to have had time at home especially when both of my children were little. Most of my time was spent doing things with them, playing with friends' children, toddler groups, gym club, all without the pressure of fitting in a full day work.

Then I worked from home for a while, slightly more difficult as there were certain expectations on behalf of my customers that had to be fulfilled so a small amount of juggling was necessary. However as I worked for myself if I stopped work early or went out with the boys to school plays etc the only one to suffer was me and my business. I went to university and studied for a degree full time. Now the challenges were more and the business I was running went by the wayside in year 2 as I could not manage that as well as the children and studying.

Once I started full time work I soon realised how hard it would be putting work before the children, it had always been so easy to turn up for assemblies, nativity plays and sports days. Now I would have to book time off in advance, take holiday or in some cases explain to the children that Grandma or Aunty will be there but not me. I think I work hard and take as little time off as possible even if unwell, but in those early days it was so hard to miss my children doing their bit in a school activity and I have shed many a tear. My eldest son said it was not fair I had to work and when I explained that he was lucky to have had me home for so long when many of his friends parents had both worked all along , he said " yes but I am used to having you there." A good argument if you are a child but for some parents the choice to work is made for them, they simply can not manage without the extra income.

For others it is their choice to work, to keep on a career pathway that you have worked for, to financially build a better life for your family or simply to keep your independence by earning your own money. Which ever decision you make or is made for you there will be positives and negatives but what counts is how you use your free time with your children, their childhood is all about making memories good or bad. We should try hard to make the good out weigh the bad.

Never Lose Your Shoes with These Organizers

Are you sick of searching for your slippers? Tired of tripping over piles of sandals on the floor of your closet? With a compact, convenient shoe organizer, you can keep all of your favorite shoes right at your fingertips and prevent delicate leather and fabrics from getting scuffed up and coated with dust. If you’re ready to whip your shoe collection into shape, shave minutes off your morning routine and make your living space more organized and serene, check out these amazing shoe organizers.

Save as much closet space as possible by hanging a shoe holder over your closet door. Products like a chic black overdoor shoe holder can hold multiple pairs of shoes, but can also be used to store hats, purses, belts, headbands, stockings and other accessories. Mesh pockets keep your items intact while allowing you to see exactly what you’re looking for. You can even hang it over your bathroom door so that all you need to do is reach out and grab your hair dryer, brushes, and beauty products, instead of rummaging around in a drawer.

Revolving shoe organizers are fantastic space savers that are perfect for apartment living, college dorms, or other situations where space is at a premium. These revolving organizers are made of durable chrome plated stainless steel. The vertical, three-tier, circular racks store up to 18 pairs of shoes off the floor, away from dust bunnies, in less than a foot of space. Special locks give you the option of raising or lowering each level based on shoe sizes. Even better yet — these organizers spin a full 360 degrees to provide easy access to shoes at every angle.

View your entire shoe collection at a glance with a clear vinyl shoe chest that zips closed in front to keep your shoes clean. These shoe chests are narrow, so that they only take up a few feet of space in your closet. If you’re crazy about shoes, you should consider buying a shoe rack that can expand along with your rapidly growing shoe collection. There’s no shoe rack more versatile than the expandable, stackable shoe rack that can slide into any space from between 24" to 46" wide. If you still need more room for your shoes, no worries.  Buy as many as you need and stack them up inside your closet! The expandable shoe rack and is constructed of durable chromed steel and is very easy to assemble.

Declutter your footwear and add a touch of elegance to any room with a wood and chrome four tier shoe shelf. Its wood finish frame and chrome wire shelves make it an attractive yet practical option for a foyer, mud room or children’s room. You can keep it next to the door or inside your closet and use it to store not just shoes, but toys, linens, clothing, garden tools and more.

If cube storage is more your style, melanine shoe cubes might be your best bet. They are made of sleek white laminated particle board, with cubbies large enough for both men's and women's shoes. The cubes are stackable for optimal space saving, and can be used to store sweaters, towels, books, and office supplies.

Another practical cube storage option is the doored cube organizer. Not only does it eliminate visual clutter by hiding the contents of each cubbie with a door, but its unique interlocking system allows you to custom design your closet, bedroom, or dorm room. Made of heavy-duty PVC plastic, the doored cube organizer is sturdy enough to be an ideal all-purpose storage unit for the garage, office, family room, or kid’s playroom.

No more space in your closet for shoes? An under-bed shoe organizer might be just what you need. You can try a clear underbed shoe storage bag made of lightweight, transparent plastic for easy viewing that zips up to protect your shoes from dust and moisture. It can hold about 16 pairs of shoes and has a built-in rope handle so that you can easily slip it under your bed or stack it in a corner of your closet. If you’re looking for something more compact that takes up even less space, try an under-bed shoe storage case. Made of vinyl, this shoe organizer is sturdy and rigid on the bottom, and features a see-through plastic cover on top.

With so many versatile organizers available on the market today, whether you choose an over-the-door shoe holder, shoe rack, cube storage system, or underbed storage case, you’ll de-clutter your home, save precious time, and keep your shoes looking fabulous all season long.

About the Author

Miranda Petrillo is a freelance writer who writes about shoe organizers.

What kind of equipment was used in a typical shoe factory in the post-war 1940s?

What was a typical large shoe factory like in the late 1940s? What kind of machinery was used? Was work done on an assembly line? How many shoes would be made in a day?

Was the machinery used dangerous? If someone was careless, could he cause a major accident that would cause harm to other workers?

I'm looking for answers, or if anyone knows a good place to find this kind of info online or at the library, that would be great too. Thanks.
