American Power Metal and European

Power metal is one of the most widely used metal music bands. Power metal has heavy metal features, but more speed like today's metal. Speed metal really was the beginning of power metal in America. There were several metal music bands that was on their approach to create something new in the metal world. This style was a calmer and more melodic sound.

The Structure of the Music

Most vocals contain growling and clean. There are several vocalists who have had a direct effect on power metal vocals. Ronnie James Dio (Dio), Rob Halford (Judas Priest) and Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) are the ones that got power metal started.

Bands that followed this trend were Hammer Fall, Symphony X, DragonForce and 3 Inches of Blood. Band for example Lost Horizon, Helloween and Gamma Ray would sing about expectation and desire. There will always be artists that sing about anger and dark things like Iced Earth, Sabaton, Manowar and Firewind.

Type of Instruments for Power Metal

The instruments that power metal uses are typical guitar, drum and bass having a keyboard here and there. With slower chord progressions within their music, power metal continues to have high harmonic tempos. Even with their slow chord progressions you can watch for some very powerful electric guitar solos. The bass sits in the back of the music that is often not heard because of the loudness of the guitars.

Double bass is a very common trait for metal music. They'll use the double bass for a constant beat or give rapid bursts in sequences.

This type of metal music genre has been known to use keyboards within their music. Bands like Rhapsody of Fire and Nightwish used keyboards to insert symphonic elements within their music.

Power Metal Cultures

Americans started to test out power metal in the 90s and it was obviously a branch from heavy metal, thrash metal and speed metal. If you compare American power metal with European power metal, you'll discover a similar taste but faster in America. American power metal has had higher vocal singers and much more distortion in the sound of their music. Check out Iced Earth,Manowar and Savatage for American power metal.

European metal put more melody in their music. Folk metal is a very well-liked in European countries and have been a large part of impact in metal music. Clean vocals and less distortion in their music is often a more European type of power metal. The style has grown to become extremely popular and is probably the largest subgenres of metal music. Helloween, Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica are some of the most popular European metal bands.

Learning Piano Via Songs Help, Any Advice Really Helpful :) ?

Hi, I have been playing music for 8 years, I'm 22 and am finally self-treaching myself piano after learning Guitar, Bass and Drums pretty much on my own,
I find it very easy to listen to a song and then learn it. I've already learned Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca and can play it with about 80% proficiency, I've gotten pretty far into Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven also but I get stuck. I find these songs too advanced though.

What I'm looking for is a list of songs that I should learn in order of difficulty.

Is there a list of songs that a piano teacher or a piano course would strive to do?

Please let me know, I don't claim to be an expert by any means but I'm always striving to get there.

Any Links, advice more than welcome :)

(: Please let me knowm Gratias Vobis Ago :)

Learning by ear is fine for guitar and bass and drums, but it doesn't work as well for learning piano, especially if you ever plan to write music on piano. Guitar chords make for a convenient crutch in learning which you do not have on piano. Moonlight Sonata is not considered very hard, so if you are getting tripped up there, it's about time you hit some books. http://www.amazon.com/Alfreds-Basic-Adult-Piano-Course/dp/0882846167
Alfred's is pretty standard and most widely used. Also, once you get through level II and have learned your notes, chords and symbols, it would be a lot more fun to find some music by artists that you like and learn those. Even if you try them by ear first. Keep your ear in tune; that's a very valuable skill. But learning music theory will prove to be much more invaluable. It opens up your creativity more than you might think.
