If you have used a traditional razor to shave for your entire life then you might consider changing over to an electric razor. To find out whether this is a wise idea we will take a test subject who is 25 years old and married (to me) who switched from a Mach 4 razor to a Braun PocketGo P-70 Men's Shaver. This electric shaver was only $15.00 so was only a minor investment.

The first thing that was noticed is that the PocketGo was lightweight and easy to use without even reading the directions. It was a horizontal electric razor and not a three head razor. This one uses batteries so putting together and starting up the razor is not rocket science.

Some initial lessons learned are that you should always go the opposite way of the hairs. This can be an incredibly difficult task on your neck because the hairs point in many different directions making a shave that is as smooth as a traditional razor takes 5-10 minutes with an electric razor if you are as obsessed with getting every single hair as the test subject was.

Also, the subject said that it is possible to get as good of a shave with this razor as you would get with a traditional razor if you push down hard enough and go against the grain of the hairs multiple times.

However the subject did state that the electric razor misses way more hairs than a traditional razor does. This was also very apparent especially when shaving in a rush.

Shaving with an electric razor after not shaving for 3 days seemed pretty much impossible. It keep leaving long hairs that it would not catch so the subject gave up and went back to a traditional razor after about 3 or 4 minutes of trying to get the hairs off.

By far the best benefit of the electric razor was that you could take it with you anywhere. You can even use it in the car while driving on the way to work if you wanted. This saves you a couple minutes in the morning which can definitely be worth it. The shave was also comparable to a traditional razor in some circumstances so this was an unexpected benefit as well.

If you are thinking about switching to an electric razor just make sure that you keep your traditional razor around for a while until you get used to finding a way to get every single hair off your face with the new razor. But once you get used to it, it can definitely be worth the switch.

Someone Please explain how Elictric cars are going to help California? Ehave a huge Electriity shortage already. Also How are they going to clean the air wheen we have to burn fossil electricity power plants. Solar has been promised 30 years ago (doesn't work)

That's a very good and valid question. Here's the answer:

Electric vehicles would help in a couple of ways, even if the electricity is being made from fossil fuels.

1. Its easier to clean up the pollution from one smoke stack than from tens of thousands of tailpipes.

2. Commercial power plants are much more efficient than automobile engines, which means for the same number of miles driven less fossil fuel is burned.

Caveat on number 2: Car engines typically operate at 15-20% efficiency. Power plants operate between 35-55% efficiency, and an electric car operates at above 90% efficiency, yielding 31.5-49.5% efficiency... BUT charging and discharging may not be very efficient, depending on the batteries or other technology used, so number 2 MIGHT not always be true.

As far as California's electricity shortages, the politicians are going to have to figure that one out. That's a legal and PR issue, not an engineering one. Personally I'm with you (if I understood your comments correctly), I think nuclear power is the best way to go (at least with our current technology).
