Can i patch a steel gas line (92 cutlass) with rubber gas line and proper clamps? is this unusual?

my friend suggested it because we got a small leak, we had it on a hill for a bit then put it into the garage on a flat, and it leaked for about 20 minutes to an hour then stooped...

cant see the leak for sure...

my friend suggested to cut out the section of the pipe and replace it with a piece of normal gas line, and clamps... do people do that some times?? m is it ok? safe?

its a 92 cutlass supreme fuel injected.
