Philadelphia Auto Show 2010

If you have never heard or been to an AUTO SHOW you are missing out. I am not a huge "car person" but I had such a good time at the Philadelphia AUTO SHOW.

At the Philly AUTO SHOW they have hundreds of cars on display for you to try out, take photos of, talk to representative, or just spend time with other car enthusiasts. You walk from room to room and there are cars everywhere you look. My husband wanted to go, so when I was offered 1 press ticket, I jumped at the chance.

Going into the auto show there were two cars that I was considering for my next car - Subaru Forester & Honda CRV (pictured below). I currently drive a 98 Subaru Forester which i LOVE, but it's getting up there in age, and starting to fall apart, so we figured it was time to look at other options.

Honda CRV - 19mpg city/25 mpg highway

Subaru Forester - 20 mpg city/25 mpg highway

After looking and comparing all the options, my husband and I determined that the Honda was not an option. It gets only 19 miles to the gallon, and my current car does better than that, and it's 12 years old and has over 80k miles on it. I thought it was cute and sporty, but not economical. The second car had I thought I may want was the Subaru Forester, which is still my favorite in terms of visibility, shape, and fit for me, but we found small size SUV's who could do better than 20mpg city and 27 mpg highway. I still love this car the best, but it may not be the best car, economically speaking.

After visiting all the Car Manufacturers two new options emerged for us: The Hyundai Tucson and the Toyota Rav 4.

Hyundai Tucson - 23mpg city/29mpg highway

Toyota Rav4 - 22mpg city/ 28 mph highway

I have several friends who have Hyundai Sante Fe's and rave about them, but when we realized how little mpg they got, we were ready to move out of the Hyundai section and keep looking, until we saw the Tucson. The Hyundai Tucson gets 23 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, which I think is really impressive for an SUV. I really liked the shape of the car, the visibility is TBD (too make people in the way when I wanted to check it out), and the mpg! The other car that we were interested in was the Toyota Rav 4, but we decided to cross that off the list of possibilities because of the trunk door style. Instead of the trunk opening up, it swings out like a door, which means you have to be careful not to park close to cars if you plan to load items into your trunk. I wasn't a fan of that.

Overall, the Auto Show was a really enjoyable experience, and I would strongly encourage people to go when it comes to your area!

Is there a chip in the Toyota Rav 4 that limits its speed?

I have a coworker that says that there is one, and I'd like to know if that is true - if so, is there a way to replace it with one that will let me go faster?

It is NOT a seperate chip. It is part of the main computer (ECU) programming. Yes there are replacement ECU but (a) that will void any warranty (b) elminate the TOP SPEED limit.

Do you often hit the top speed limit? They market these chips to increase HP, but in general they don't increase it that much (not even enough to make a diff).
